Out At Sea With the T123's

Today we had the pleasure of watching the T123's against the dramatic snow-capped backdrop of the Olympic Peninsula.

The T123's are a sub-pod of four, made up of the Matriarch T123 "Sidney," and her surviving offspring: Her son (born 2000) T123A "Stanley," her daughter (born 2012) T123C "Lucky," and newest calf (born 2018) T123D "Darcy."

In 2011 Sidney and Stanley were stranded on a sandbar in British Columbia and were stuck until the tide returned high enough to free them. It is unknown as to whether Sidney's offspring T123B (born 2009) died during the incident, but it was never seen again afterwards. Whales don't handle gravity on their organs well, so it was a surprise to us all when T123C was born in 2012, healthy as could be. She was named "Lucky" right away!

It's always a pleasure to see these survivors thriving. Until next time, Stanley!
