A Killer Start to August

Yesterday we got to watch Orcas! They were first spotted near Saturna Island, then traveled east into the Strait of Georgia and around the Outer Islands.

There were five Orcas spotted, the T124A pod.

They were cruising East for a while, keeping a pace of 6 or 7 knots!

Suddenly, they slowed their speed and started barrel diving and splashing about. They were making a kill! We even saw them bring their catch up above the surface...one of them holding a harbor porpoise in her jaws!

They seemed very excited about the kill!

They were even doing some spy hopping, as if to see how we were reacting to the hunt!

Once they were done celebrating, the Orcas continued on their journey, right past our view of Mount Baker.

We even got a quick stop at Patos Lighthouse on our way home. What a beautiful start to the new month!
