Two Cousins go for a Cruise

The adventure of the day started with a short ride to the southern side of Orcas Island, where we caught up to two cousin Orcas. Jude and Amira were moving at a steady pace while we watched their magnificent dorsal fins move through the water and disappear. The cousins were born in 2007 making them about 15 years old.

After watching the two cousins we set out in search of a Minke whale in which we found Steller sea lions. These young males have stayed in the Salish Sea in order to feed for the summer probably because they aren’t able to out compete the larger males to mate, but their time is coming!

On the way back to the dock we were greeted by a humpback whale with a flip of its fluke! This made for a splendid end to todays excursion!
